Day 10: 279
benzado: slowcarbcrazy: So I ended up at McDonalds, eating french fries and chicken nuggets. I just wanted comfort food. I got “caught”. Charlie Todd and Ben Rodgers were walking by McDonalds and saw me. I guess they had been talking about my blog and this diet. It’s embarrassing to be caught. Today I’m back on track. I’m calling yesterday this week’s cheat day, so I’ll still be on my diet on...

Anonymous asked: Hi - do you plan to support online integration with the Withings WI-FI scale - this would be very handy and simplify the process of data entry (and make things that much closer to the idea of the Hacker's Diet yes/no "watch")

Anonymous asked: Thank you for FatWatch. I find it very helpful! I'm sure everyone else understands this, but could you explain how the *"number of pounds" to lose*, on the TRENDS screen, is calculated, as it is not a simple arithmetic problem (today's weight - goal weight = pounds to lose). Is the calculation made using the trend line? Or are you encouraging us to reach 1.9 pounds below our...

Clever idea I just had: clean your water bottle...
First day back at the gym, my water bottle smells a little funky. I want to clean it, but I also don’t want to be drinking soap. I notice the mouthwash dispenser next to the sink, and Eureka! A small pump into the bottle, rinsed out with water, and my bottle is minty fresh clean!

Beta testing program →
I just sent a note to my beta testers not to expect too much until January. I’m working on an iPad project that will be keeping me busy through the end of the year. However, I’ve been working in my spare time on a roadmap for FatWatch and I’m pretty excited about what’s in store. If you’re interested in beta testing, follow the link above.

Margaret Cho: The "F*** It" Diet →
This is something comedian Margaret Cho wrote in 2003 and I just rediscovered. She writes about how, after years of struggling with her weight, she simply gave up and stopped obsessing about food, and, weirdly enough, got thinner. I hesitate to quote it, you should read the whole thing, but if you insist: I stopped exercising, and started writing. I played with my dogs. I looked at shit on Ebay....

Maura Kelly writes about how it makes her uncomfortable to see fat people on TV. There is backlash, of course. She attempts to apologize. More backlash. The comments are amazing. One of note: Ah, yes, and to think over half the population of American has not been able to manage to do this. Perhaps, Ms. Kelly, you have oversimplified the problem a tad bit? Ya think? Addiction. There, I said it....

Anonymous asked: Hi Ben. I absolutely love Fatwatch! It is for me, the perfect application; easy to use, nice graphics and clear graphs. Anonymous asked: I'm thinking of buying FatWatch, and I have a question. Is it possible to add weight data for days in the past? I have some data for the last few months I'd like to include, but I don't see anything on the Weight Entry screenshot that would allow me to choose a date other than today.

FatWatch 2.1.1 in Review
FatWatch 2.1, released last week, has two problems: It is compatible with iOS 4.1 and nothing earlier. It draws charts incorrectly if you have days with no weight, marks, or notes attached. It basically forgets these days exist and causes the markings on the chart to be skewed to the left. FatWatch 2.1.1, submitted to the App Store last night, fixes both of these problems. The first one was...

Workout Workflow
ectomorph: For tracking meals, I use another app called Lose It.  It’s free and does most of what I need.  One thing I don’t like about it, however, is that the developers assume the people using this app are using it only to lose weight.  (The name is a tip off.)  So, it only shows you how many calories you should eat if you want to lose or maintain your weight.  In other words, I have to make...

Sleep vs. Not Sleep
ectomorph: My goal is to go to the gym at least 4 to 5 times a week.  My one obstacle to this goal has always been sleep.  Today was a good start, albeit similar to the million other starts I’ve had before.  Fortunately, I fought off the urge to stay asleep today like a midget fights off a giant, comfortable hug-bear.  (That simile makes sense to me.  Don’t be hatin’.) I’m not sure exactly how...

Anonymous asked: Love the app! Fantastic weigh to keep track of my weight. Huge thumbs up!

One little tweak please, when opening the app and going to 'Log' it no longer has today's or most recent data there. You have to use the 'Go to' option. I'm sure on previous versions this was automatic.
