The FatWatch Weight Log

FatWatch is a tool for your iPhone or iPod touch to help you track and analyze your body weight. It uses methods described in The Hacker's Diet by John Walker.

iPad?

Yes!

You want more detail? OK.

I intend to make FatWatch a Universal app (runs natively on both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad). But it will take some time. Here’s what has to happen:

First, a new interface needs to be designed. Even though a lot of people describe the iPad as a giant iPhone, having a larger screen significantly changes the way you interact with it. Simply enlarging the current interface would be silly: the Chart would benefit from a larger screen, but the Log by itself would have a ton of unused space surrounding it.

I’ve been thinking about this, and I have some sketches in my notebook, but nothing I’m in love with yet.

Second, FatWatch needs to be able to sync data across two or more devices. I’m assuming most people with an iPad also have an iPhone or iPod touch. They probably want to use iPhone to weigh-in and then iPad to look at the chart on a large screen. I know that’s what I would do. So I’d have to introduce some kind of local or cloud sync.

I could release an iPad-native version without the sync feature, but I’m pretty sure a lot of people would (loudly) complain about how useless it was.

That’s a substantial bit of work, and FatWatch isn’t my full time job, so unfortunately I can’t make any promises. But it is something I plan to do.
