Drinking and weight loss are very tricky to combine. There are two issues at stake: 1) the empty calories in the drink itself and, more seriously, 2) the lowered inhibitions that lead you to eat everything in the room. For these reasons, many dieters just avoid the booze altogether. For some this is a fine solution. But for others, long term prohibition is just a sad, mournful thought.
Masha is writing a very thoughtful weight loss blog. Food and drink are intertwined with our social lives, and anybody who offers advice while ignoring this fact is negligent. Masha is clearly writing about weight management from the perspective of someone who wants to, you know, have a life.
